The club is called McMaster 'Goju Ryu'
Karate - what is the 'Goju Ryu' stand for?
There are many different styles of karate, all quite similar yet
each with its own unique emphasis and set of forms, or 'kata' (more
on kata later).
The style we practice at McMaster is Goju Ryu - 'hard soft style'
- which was founded by Miyagi Chojun in Okinawa early in the 19th
century. Gogen Yamaguchi, a student of Miyagi's, taught and further
developed the Goju Ryu style in mainland Japan. We at McMaster are
most closely affliated with this Japanese style.
